is a project by Michael Hansmeyer and Benjamin Dillenburger, in which I had a pleasure to participate.
Digital Grotesque is the first human-scale immersive space entirely constructed out of 3D printed sandstone. Its every detail is generated through customized algorithms-a simple digital input form is recursively refined and enriched, culminating in a geometric mesh of 260 million individually specified facets.
Both, algorithmic procedure and additive manufacturing can lead to a non-standardized, highly differentiated and spatially complex architecture that is defined at the scale of millimeters. My responsibility in this project covered the fabrication and finishing of the surface of final piece.
