DRAWN- main piece

250×250 cm in a grid 8×8 30×30 cm, robotically distributed ink on paper

Drawn is a collection of robotic procedures used in the elaboration of the drawing. The gesture is displaced from the hand to the robotic arm and as such makes an abstraction of  the body. Opening a form of co-authorship, robotics opens the drawing to both the possibility of an extreme precision and to a loss of control, to the point of loosing the preliminary design. Through robotics, the drawing adopts other forms of materiality,  abandons planeness to be deployed into space.

The main art piece of the size 2.5m x 2.5m was presented at Art[n+1] gallery in Paris during Drawbot exhbition in October 2017. The curve composition starts in the left bottom corner of the wall to trigger the dialog with the front desk located in the close neighbourhood. Front desk is a demostrator of robotic rod bending process developed previously with the same generic machine- an industrial robotic arm. The drawing was rationalized into 64 pieces 30x30cm distributed in 8×8 grid and was drawn and deployed into space over time of the lasting exhibiton. Composition of the curves was developed with agent based systems to computationally trigger the growth of the whole aggregation of curves presenting its collective behaviour based on rules of alignment of all curves.

COLLECTION

collection of 30×30 cm

DRAWN- collection piece

64 30×30 cm, robotically distributed ink on paper

The complementary collection of the main ‘drawn’ piece consists of 64 small scale iterations of the curves composition with varied densities and its beheviours.

Each of the piece follows the basic rules of  left bottom corner as as a starting point of the growth, as well the design metodology of agent based systems to computationally trigger the growth of the whole aggregation of curves presenting its collective behaviour based on rules of alignment of all curves.
